Sunbeam FPSBTRWP01 Whoopie Pie Maker, Brown

Whoopie Pies, Muffins, Brownies, Arepas.. Yum!
I was surprised at how affordable this is. It works great, too. Basically, you open it up and have four cavities--enough to make four arepas (Venezuelan corn cakes), muffin tops, or two whoopie pies. You spray it with nonstick spray, and then put in 1/4 cup of batter into the cavities, close the lid (kind of like a waffle maker), and let it go. You do need to test the thing that you are making with a toothpick...as at least on mine, the "ready" light seems to cycle on and off.

For arepas, if you'd like to try them, I recommend the epicurious recipe for chicken salad/avocado as a filling. You can buy arepa flour either made by Goya or P.A.N.--but if you just want to sort of experience it, try using Jiffy cornbread mix. Not 100% authentic, but a good idea if you don't want to buy a big bag of precooked cornmeal (which is what the Arepa flour is). The bag of flour will have a recipe on it... just follow it.... and you'll be fine. :)

For muffins, I've had luck...

Sunbeam Whoopie Pie Maker
This whoopie pie maker has a cute design that resembles a giant whoopie pie. Each of the four impressions can hold 1/4 cup of batter or dough. (You can skimp and use 2-3 tablespoons if you do not want whoopie pies that are nearly the size of hamburgers.) I have found that my pies are more tender when made with cake batter rather than traditional whoopie recipes that usually contain more flour. Since the pies cook dome-side down in wells and are not dropped onto baking sheets, they do not need extra flour to keep their shape. I do not recommend the recipes provided in the instructions, either. (Tough AND dry.)

I have used this to make muffin tops, too, and they came out great.

Bakes evenly without any dark spots. The interior has a red ceramic-type coating that is very smooth, has no nooks or crannies to catch crumbs, and wipes clean easily. This whoopie pie maker is large but can stand upright on a shelf to take up less space.

Nice appliance.

Just great!
I bought this artefact few weeks ago to substitute my tostiarepa. It came out great!
My arepas are done in about 6 minutes and I couldn't be more happy.
I like the material used to be in contact with the dough because it's not teflon, is more like ceramic.
Very easy to clean - just a damp cloth - and you are ready to go.
It has a good size too.
Not to mention the price, very convenient.
