Oster FPSTSM5102 350-Watt 12-Speed All Metal Stand Mixer, Black with Chrome Accents

A good workhorse
Some one was thinking when they designed this machine. There are two places to sit the bowl. One is on center, and the other is off center, depending what you are doing. The bowl is designed to be placed off center when you are using beaters, so that it goes up against the side of the bowl, not just in the middle. One of the beaters is shaped to hug the side of the bowl, so you get a nice mix. The mixer starts slower for a couple seconds before going into the regular speed you set it at, so you don't get a face full of flour. The head will lock in place when you lift it up, so you don't have to worry about it plopping back into the bowl. I like the shape of the bowl better than some more expensive mixers. Nice dough hooks! Overall I feel pretty happy buying this instead of a much more expensive stand mixer. I mostly like to bake bread, and will use a wire whip to do cake batters by hand most of the time. But it is nice to have mixer that will make a lot of batter, and be able to handle...

Good mixer overall
I received this mixer as a Christmas gift and I was pleased. There is very little I don't like about it, in fact. I have used it several times, 2 cakes, a cheesecake, 3 batches of pumpkin bread and in each case it did pretty much all it was supposed to do. It comes with one large bowl, beaters and dough hooks. At the time you first take it out of the box you will notice that there are two positions in which you can place the turntable. One is centered and the other is offset. You want to use the one that is offset so the cone beater will clear the side of the bowl. (If you put the turntable in the incorrect position, you will have a situation where the beaters only mix at the center of the bowl and do not work the side at all.) You will also want to make sure that the cone-shaped (rounded) beater is on the side of the bowl and the square one in the center--they have color-coded the beaters to make this easy. When using the mixer you absolutely have to make sure the head is...

"Heavy Duty Dough Hooks, Whimpy Motor"
If you had asked me 14 months ago how I liked this Oster stand mixer, I would have said "great", because on average, day to day use, it performed fine. However, there was a reason I wanted a stand mixer with "Heavy Duty" beaters and Dough Hooks" and that 350 Watt motor.
My arthritic hands and carpel tunnel syndrome no longer permit me to mix heavy cookie dough and bread dough by hand.

Even at that, this machine did okay with an occasional batch of cookies. It wasn't until two months ago, two months after the "limited one year warranty" expired, I might add, that my ancient bread machine died and I decided to try out those Oster "Heavy Duty" Dough Hooks.

In these past two months I have made bread about 8 times. There are four cups of flour involved in one batch of bread. I was thrilled with the performance of the Oster stand mixer. I even decided that I could skip buying a new bread machine. Oster did the job wonderfully__until March 1st when production of...
